2search1 Essay Essay search9 Zaluzije 1 Sencila searchST. PAUL, Minn. – While the Blackhawks added a defenseman Monday in Chris Campoli in a trade with Ottawa, they lost another one in Jordan Hendry.
Hendry suffered a torn left ACL in Sunday’s win over Phoenix when Shane Doan checked him hard into the end boards early in the third period and will be lost for the rest of the season.
“He will undergo reconstructive surgery shortly and we anticipate a full recovery in approximately six months,” Hawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry said.
Hendry, 27, will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
The Hawks were looking for defense depth even before Hendry went down. Adding Campoli in a trade for Ryan Potulny and a conditional second-round draft pick was necessary, but they are thin on the blue line.
General manager Stan Bowman said veterans Jassen Cullimore and Garnet Exelby, now playing at Rockford, could help down the stretch, although Cullimore presently is hurt.
Bowman also said Rockford prospects Brian Connelly, Shawn Lalonde, Ivan Vishnevskiy and Ryan Stanton could be recalled in a pinch.
John Scott filled in on defense for Hendry against the Wild on Monday with Campoli unable to get a visa issue cleared up in time to get to Minnesota and play.
They can move into 4th with a game in hand on the Yotes. Hawks are doing what they need to do right now and I hope they don't take the foot off the gas pedal.
I might be too optimistic, but the Wings haven't locked up the division title just yet. With 3 more games between the teams and 6 points up for grabs, the Hawks can at least give them a fight near the end.
They have gotten 13 and 14 pts in the previous 2 sets of 10 games, and that has them on pace for a little over 100. Another tough stretch here, starting on Monday @ Minnesota, with 7 of the 10 on the road. They are finding ways to WIN games instead of LOSING games.
Shockingly, I was optimistic about this team going on a run since we haven't seen it, and having some of the guys who have played horrid early on, step it up. We are beginning to see exactly WHAT this team can do when they put it all together. Guys are getting comfortable with their role and the coaches expectations of them. Lines are solidfying, and defensive pairings are starting to gel.
I think the 4th or 5th seed is realistic, and maybe even the division IF, and that's a HUGE IF, Detroit starts to stumble and the Hawks stay hot and win the head to head games.....That's a long ways down the road.
Quenneville already called this the biggest game of the year. Win this, and move ahead of Calgary by a pt with 2 more in hand. Then they can start to distance themselves for the bottom few seeds.
c`mon , you really do not want all 5 on the ice in one spot . Really !! c`mon . 4 was enough in there . Someone has to play the outside also , at the same time . And do you really want Kane to fight a guy , any guy . Heck no . Sticking your stick up once in a while may create some space at a later date . He is not a big guy , but he plays big . especially on offense . When he has the puck -HE JUST PLAYS WITH THE GUY ON HIM .. No one smart will challenge him , he will make you pay . They know it too.!!! Remember when you were 22 ............... Dont be jealous . He does do his job . ( Like Charlie Sheen ) . He shows up , and scores . Sorry - that is not fair to him . Sheen is 40 + and not 22 . Any team in hockey would be putting an offer in if he was available - and anybody that knows hockey would too
almost 3.9 mil a year for 4 years - sweet. Niemi hit the jackpot.
The guy has been playing well. One key, Niemi doesn't get injured. I hope we don't face him in the playoffs. oh, i should not get ahead of myself.
Very interesting and good for him. I'm happy for the guy, as it was an unfortunate and sloppy ending here.
Apparently, Doug Wilson likes what he has seen.
Wilson: "Antti’s play has been outstanding and, just as important, he has consistently been a great teammate."
Hawks better do something with Crawford soon . . .
Another whiff for the hockey blogger and rumor-monger Jacukel, who comically (and stubbornly) continues to bring up Huet (his guy) whenever Niemi's name gets mentioned.
I'm happy for Antti and i'll NEVER forgive our gm for letting this gem go. NEVER.
Funny. Some see Kane fail to get back on a cattle call rodeo roundup in the Hawks slot. Meh.
I, however, was pretty impressed by Kane's assist on the Hawks third goal . . . He sent a radar-guided saucer pass over a defender's outstretched stick . . . elevating it just enough to get it there and yet landing it flat right on the ice right in Toews' wheelhouse. Sickly stuff.
I guess I am just a glass half-full kind of guy.
...is that he has been playing harder, back-checking more, and being more physical over this past month or so than I have ever seen him play. The kid is 22, wealthy, and half of the young girls (and not so young girls) in Chicagoland want to marry him (at least for a night).
With all these distractions, he has played damn good, and will continue to get better -- that is, if he is not crippled first because this team has no one willing to protect him.
Leave Kane alone -- another one of just a handful of guys on this team that is doing what he was paid to do.
I just don't understand the nitpicking on Kane. I bet for every other player on the team, you could find a play on film that they should have played differently/better. And other plays they actually did play perfectly. Kane also had several good back checks, one of which lead to the 2 on 1 that lead to your referenced sick saucer pass. Don't get it.
Thank God for the resurgence of this team. As great as Toews and his line have been, I'm also impressed by the play of lower line guys such as Johnson and Frolik. We look better, more settled, from top to bottom. Apart from young Leddy's brain-cramp on the Havlat goal, last night's game was an excellent show. One has to think that the Canucks and Wings are quaking in their boots at the thought of an opening round series against these surging Blackhawks. Can you imagine the pressure Luongo, the Sedins, and Kesler, would be under if such a matchup happened? Just loved the pace of last night's game.
